Alama Sylla

Registered Midwife

Alama Sylla is a dedicated midwife at St George’s University Hospital NHS Foundation in Southwest London. Beginning her journey in 2005 with a Registered Nurse diploma, she later earned a Postgraduate Diploma in Midwifery in 2021. Alama has extensive experience across antenatal and postnatal care, birthing centers, and labor wards, providing compassionate support to women of diverse backgrounds. Passionate about continual learning, she is certified in KGHypnobirthing, Spinning Babies, and Thai Massage for maternity. Alama is preparing for the IBCLC exam, enhancing her expertise in lactation support for new mothers.

Antoine Lassalle is an accomplished professional photographer specialising in fashion, film, and music. His work has been featured in a BBC TV series episode, showcasing his creative versatility. Passionate about imagery's power, Antoine embarked on a transformative photojournalism project that bridges cultures through visual storytelling. This project highlights antenatal and postnatal journeys, capturing the lives of midwives, new parents, religious representatives, tribal chefs, and family members. With discretion and respect, Antoine illuminates the profound moments shared between midwives and women, revealing the sensitivity and depth of these life-changing experiences.

Jo Divers

Associate Dean, School of Nursing, Midwifery & Public Health

Jo is a registered Midwife and SCPHN who has worked and trained in healthcare and higher education since 2010. Jo currently works as an Associate Dean for a School of Nursing, Midwifery & Public Health. Jo has a particular interest in teaching on contemporary subjects within the public health arena and is engaged in work to develop feminist approaches to student practice reflection as part of ongoing doctoral research. Jo works for the QAA on behalf of the nursing and midwifery regulator (NMC) to provide quality assurance reviews of NMC regulated programmes and is a Senior Fellow of Advance HE.

Paarul Prinja

Dr Paarul Prinja works at Birmingham Women’s Hospital and the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust as both and Acute and Obstetric Physician. She is also the lead Obstetric Physician for the West Midlands Maternal Medicine Network based at Birmingham Women’s Hospital. She is also Treasurer for the Macdonald Obstetric Medicine Society and is chair of the Society for Acute Medicine - Obstetric Medicine special interest group. She has also trained in intermediate critical care and is proficient in using ultrasound and has accreditation in focussed echocardiography.

"Pip is an experienced, practicing Midwifery Sister, Specialist Pelvic Health Midwife, MSc Graduate, founder of Midwife Pip Podcast, Hypnobirth and Antenatal Educator, Qualified Pre and Postnatal Exercise Trainer, author of Midwife Pip’s Guide to a Positive Birth and importantly a mum of two boys. Pip is on a mission to make sure that all women can access the information they deserve and need to be empowered and supported through their pregnancy, birth and postpartum journeys. "

Sam Chenery-Morris

Dean of School of Nursing, Midwifery & Public Health

Sam is a Registered Nurse (Adult and Child) and Registered Midwife, and has worked in higher education since 2006. She has been an Associate Professor in Midwifery since 2015. Sam completed her MA and PhD in 2010 and 2017 respectively, researching student’s learning and assessment in clinical practice. Sam has worked as an External Examiner at three universities, is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and was the Academic Midwife for the NICE 2021 Antenatal Care Clinical Guideline Committee.
